NEW: Virtual Group Programs
West Carleton Family Health Team offers the following group programs through a virtual format (Zoom). All groups are led by a Registered Dietitian. Click on the group you are interested in to learn more.
Healthy Weights, healthy habits
Healthy Weights, Healthy Habits is a single-session two-hour group. Part 1 provides evidence-based information about body weight, metabolism, calories and dieting (and all the misconceptions about these ideas). Part 2 focuses on behaviour change, and how to create long-lasting healthy habits.
heart smart series
Heart Smart is a three-session series. Each session is 90 minutes. Session 1 provides information on heart disease and explores the Mediterranean diet and its many benefits. Session 2 focuses on understanding and managing cholesterol, and Session 3 focuses on understanding and managing high blood pressure. All three sessions discuss a variety of lifestyle interventions.

Session 1: Heart disease and Mediterranean Eating
Session 2: Managing Cholesterol
Session 3: Managing High Blood Pressure

These three sessions work best when taken together, though anyone can choose to attend just one separately.
prediabetes
Prediabetes is a single session 90-minute group. If you have been told you have prediabetes or are at risk for diabetes, this group is right for you. In this group, you will learn about blood sugar management, important concepts such as insulin resistance, complications of diabetes and the important roles of nutrition and exercise.
mindful eating
Mindful eating is a six-week program with sessions running once per week. Each session is two hours. This is a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy-based group that aims to improve your relationship with food and break the dieting cycle to create long-term, sustainable changes.

Mindful eating will teach you how to:
  • Listen to your body’s hunger and fullness cues
  • Understand and manage food cravings
  • Use cognitive behavioural strategies to assist with emotional eating
  • Prioritize both your mental and physical wellbeing

You must register and be available for all six sessions to take this group, as each week builds on content from the previous week.
