Travel Medicine

We now have Travel Medicine Consultations available to patients at our clinic. If interested, you can make an appointment for these services by calling our clinic or speaking with reception. These services are subject to a fee as they are not covered by OHIP.

Travel Consultations with an MD:
  • Consult a family physician with experience in Travel Medicine and certified through the International Society of Travel Medicine’s Certificate in Travel Health (CTH®): Dr Evelyn Charland MD CCFP CTH®
  • Topics discussed include vaccines and the diseases they prevent, prevention of traveler’s diarrhea and water/food precautions, prevention of insect-borne diseases such as malaria and altitude illness prevention.
  • My goal is to educate each traveler so they can make informed choices about which vaccines, medications and precautions fit their needs.

Preparing for your visit:
  • Please book at least 1 month in advance and bring any immunization records for review if possible.
  • Last minute traveler? We can still offer important vaccines, medications and recommendations for your trip!
  • Please fill in your Pre-Travel Questionnaire that will be sent to you prior to your appointment.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes early to your appointment to check you in and to get weight measurements for children.

What to expect:
  • Travel Medicine Consultations are not covered by OHIP. There are reduced rates for groups going on the same trip (up to a maximum of 6 people per consultation.)
  • Prescriptions for vaccines and medications will be given to you on the day of your appointment.
  • You may book with a nurse at the clinic for administration of the prescribed travel vaccines. There is an injection fee for each travel vaccine (many travel vaccines are not OHIP covered but may be covered through your insurance plan.)
  • Recommended OHIP covered vaccines can be administered the day of your appointment at no cost.
  • Consultations are 30-60 minutes and if vaccines are administered we recommend that you wait 15 minutes after injections before leaving the clinic.

Yellow Fever Vaccination Center:
We are a Yellow Fever Vaccination Center and this vaccine can be provided through the travel clinic on the day of your consultation. An international certificate of vaccination will be issued to the traveler the day of administration. (*vaccine subject to availability)
